CHIEF WAYNE KESSINGER

Floyd County Chief of Police

 

 

Chief Kessinger has 41 years of experience including 30 with Louisville Metro Police where he retired in July 2000 as Major, Assistant to the Chief. On January 1, 2003 Wayne joined the Floyd County Prosecutors Office as a Special Investigator until He was appointed Chief Deputy of the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department.  From 2008 to 2012 Kessinger was an adjunct instructor for Ivy Tech College where he taught various classes in Criminal Justice. Over the last 41 years Wayne has as a patrolman, property crimes investigator and a Homicide Investigator. Wayne has also worked in Internal Affairs, Specialized Unit Commander and Administration. Wayne has a Bachelors Degree from Eastern Kentucky University in Police Administration, is a graduate from the Louisville Police Academy, a graduate of University Of Louisville Southern Police Institute, a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.

As Sheriff of Floyd County, Frank has a long history in Floyd County in emergency service starting as an EMT when he was 18 years of age. His public service with the Floyd County Sheriff's Department started  when he was hired at the age of 22. During his career he has held the positions of patrol officer, investigations, drug interdiction, SWAT commander, instructor, and Chief of Police under Sheriff Randy Hubbard. In 2003, he graduated from the FBI academy and then graduated from Indiana Wesleyan in 2011 with a B.A. in Criminal Justice.

The Floyd County Police serve and protect Floyd County, Indiana 24 hours a day, 365 days a week. FCPD answers thousands of calls for assistance every month and respond to several different types of incidents in the community while maintaining a high level of professionalism and dedication to the residents of Floyd County.
